Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel It Ends With Us (2016) is an award-winning romance novel that captured the hearts of millions. The novel accomplished this through the heartbreaking story centered on the novel's main character Lily Bloom. Lily had a pain-filled childhood while growing up in Plethora, a town in the state of Maine(in the novel). Lily's father was the town's major. He was a charismatic, highly successful, and beloved character to the public but an abusive tyrant at home.   Lily's childhood memories store many scenes of her father assaulting, verbally abusing, and even raping her mother. Many of these memories were locked away in her mind after Lily moved to Boston to pursue her university education. However, these memories resurface in Lily's mind after her father passes away. His passing causes Lily to open her childhood diary and reread the letters written in pain. The letters also reveal that Lily's mother developed a victim complex due to the abuse. The victim complex eventually causes Lily's mother to see Lily as a target to drain from whatever she desires at any given moment.   It is truly inspiring when Lily, despite her past, becomes a successful entrepreneur who owns a flower shop business. Lily even meets a handsome neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, who she sees as husband material. Sadly, Ryle sees her as merely a fling. Lily soon doesn't realize she is slowly becoming her mother.   Fans can be sure that a movie adaptation of It Ends with us is in the works. Justin Baldoni obtained the rights for the movie adaptation in 2019. Justin also worked with Colleen Hoover to complete the script in 2022. The search for a movie director, casting, and these other essentials are underway.
