Pride and Prejudice Summary
Jane Austen of Steventon, Hampshire, England was born on the 16th of December, 1775. She is the seventh of eight children born to George and Cassandra Austen.
Pride and Prejudice (originally named the First Impressions) is referred to as a literary classic of romantic fiction. Jane was encouraged by her dad to read and write; she lived with a very supportive family. Her writing uses a combination of social commentary, romance, irony and realism to build her plots and create fantastic writings. Jane got diagnosed with Addison’s disease, which affected her completely until her death. Jane died at the young age of 41 in 1816. However, her work will continue to live and thrive.
Pride and Prejudice made it to the big screens in 2005, directed by Joe Wright and based on the original writings of Jane Austen. Pride of Prejudice was labeled universally acclaimed by “Metacritic”, scoring a whopping 82%, earning four nominations from the 78th academy awards including the best actress award.
The characters of this fantastic novel were cleverly and meticulously thought through as the author built the momentum. The main characters include Elizabeth Bennet, the novel’s protagonist, Fitzwilliam Darcy – A wealthy gentleman; Jane Bennet – The eldest and most beautiful Bennet sister; Charles Bingley – Darcy’s considerably wealthy best friend; Mr. and Mrs. Bennet; Lydia Bennet – The youngest Bennet sister and others.
