Life is never easy in all walks of it. Though our main character Ponyboy feels, he has a firm grasp of it. He knows he can count on his siblings (his brothers Darry and Sodapop) and his friends in times of need especially when it comes to dealing with the ‘Socs’ from the ‘West Side.’ They are a vicious rich kid gang that prey on people like Ponyboy, who is classified as a ‘Greaser’. They are called the ‘Greasers’ because of the way they grease back their hair and coincidentally are not as well of as the ‘Socs.’
These gangs have been somehow coinciding for quite some time until one person takes things too far, and everything turns batshit crazy.
Complete with in-depth character exposition this under 200-page novel written over 40 years ago is still a very exciting read. Also, check out the movie trailer below and let us know if you agree – this movie followed the book quite faithfully in our opinion.
“Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold.”
“I lie to myself all the time. But I never believe me.”
“Can you see the sunset real good on the West side? You can see it on the East side too.”
“Things were rough all over, but it was better that way. That way you could tell the other guy was human too.”
“Nothing sparkly can stay.”
